One of the new additions to Android 6.0 Marshmallow is its new app drawer. The Android app drawer has evolved a lot from the previous android versions up to the developer preview 3. Let’s have a look at what’s new!
As the app drawer was released in developer preview 1 of Android M, lots of negative comments were raised due to its alphabetically arranged apps. Although the intention must have been to make the apps more organized, the interface looked more cluttered than organized with the feature. Therefore the alphabetical arrangement was removed in developer preview 2.
Let’s look at what’s currently available in the developer preview 3’s app drawer on Google Nexus 6. It has a vertical scroll view unlike the swipe view that was available prior to Marshmallow, which is quite annoying for the users who have been accustomed to the swipe navigation. A good side of the Android M app drawer is that it displays the 4 most visited apps in the top row of apps for the convenience of the users.
A search feature which wasn’t available earlier has also been added to Android 6 which helps you search for an app of your preference. And the app drawer is also made to be as simple as possible by removing certain features like sorting apps in to categories.
