It isn’t arbitrary- there are concrete reasons and a documented history for why we drive the way we do. BONUS FACT:
Archaeologists found a Roman quarry in Swindon, England dating back to 100 A.D. Ruts in the road leading away from the quarry were deeper than the ones leading to it, because of the heavier loads in the carts. These deeper ruts were on the left!
