India’s Duster is near identical to the European model, yet Renault says they sit on different platforms: RGMP for India and CMFB for Europe. Why so.

Similar bones, different nervous system
RGMP shares much of its hardware with CMFB but gets a completely new electrical and electronics architecture called SWEET400, co-developed with Google.
It powers the Google Automotive System, integrating infotainment with functions like HVAC, locking, drive modes and driver profiles too.

Going small
RGMP has also been engineered to comfortably support sub-4-metre vehicles, something CMFB wasn’t originally designed for.
CMFB cars like the Clio sit just over 4m, but Renault says it didn’t want compromises like trimming the boot. The upcoming sub-4m Renault Bridger is expected to use RGMP.

Plugging in
CMFB wasn’t originally designed for EVs. Renault later re-engineered an EV platform CMF-EV, which has since been renamed AmpR.
RGMP, is a similar approach, and has been re-engineered to support EVs, without packaging compromises.

European and India Duster – siblings not twins
The India-spec Duster also gets higher equipment levels and a taller passenger cell.
To fit the panoramic sunroof, the cabin is about 40mm taller, and with extra ground clearance overall height rises by around 50mm.
