Like most geeks in their early 30's and late 20's, I've seen the rise and fall of the Sidekick as a brand and a platform. I remember the original black and white progeny of the Danger (Software & OS) and Sharp (Hardware), and staring in wonder at the browser of the Sidekick 2. Much like parachute pants and 90201 sideburns, the Sidekick brand has seen better days. However, every good thing deserves a revival, and the folks at T-Mobile are hoping a complete makeover will make the brand relevant again. The recipe for the new Sidekick 4G is a pretty impressive mix Android (FroYo), a 3.5" (480 X800) capacitive touchscreen powered by Samsung's Cortex A8 Hummingbird processor (the same one found in the Galaxy S line). Does this modern mix of hardware and software breathe new life into an old brand? Does the Sidekick 4G offer enough to separate itself from the growing competition? The answer, is yes and no. Hit play to find out why.
