Over the last decade, design of enterprise wireless networks have gone through a radical shift. While initial wisdom pointed to a completely distributed design, increasingly more and more functions are getting aggregated into a centralized architecture. In our recent work, we have focused on four interesting aspects of designing robust enterprise wireless networks: (i) a systems approach to mitigating some of the most challenging scenarios in these wireless environments, --- hidden and exposed terminal problems --- and the impact of such mechanisms on diverse applications, e.g., large file transfers, voice applications, and web activity, (ii) a unique infrastructure-assisted approach for energy efficiency in mobile device users of such networks, (iii) a low-overhead security perimeter for enterprises based on the notion of radiometric fingerprinting of wireless transmitters, and (iv) design of efficient video and audio services that can provide HD quality streams to multiple users in an enterprise WLAN environment in a scalable manner. In this talk, I will describe some of our solutions in the first two components in detail, and present a shorter overview of core capabilities and performance guarantees that we have built for the remaining two components.
