The session includes an introduction to AWS IoT button and AWS Greengrass – a new software that allows for local computing, messaging & data caching for connected devices in a secure way – even in offline mode. Greengrass enables IoT devices to respond quickly to local events, operate with intermittent connections and minimize the cost of transmitting IoT data to the cloud by allowing for data filters .
The session goes on to highlight some of the use cases of AWS IoT such as smart temperature sensors and AWS IoT uptake case studies including London City Airport and Peterborough City Council. The presentation concludes with a brief overview of Amazon Polly and Lex services.
Audience questions post the presentation relate to the algorithms behind the AWS IoT software and AWS IoT’s application in satellite imaging areas. Pratim responds by mentioning that AWS has recently partnered with MS.net for its algorithms and is working in collaboration with European and American agencies on Open Data projects in the satellite imagery area.
