Speech disorders affect tens of millions worldwide. Yet, a full understanding of the pathophysiology of these disorders is missing, while diagnosis and treatment lack precision and efficacy. With the focus on dystonia, tremor and Parkinson’s disease affecting speech production, the Simonyan laboratory uses multi-modal neuroimaging, machine learning and neural population modeling to determine and validate neural markers of speech disorders, as well as the endophenotypic and genetic markers of their development.
