Skype for Business to Microsoft Teams, a transition story

By July 31, 2021, Skype for Business Online will be retired and all Skype for Business users will be transitioned to Microsoft Teams 365. Microsoft Teams extends the capabilities of Skype for Business, bringing together chat, meetings, calling, collaboration, app integration, and file storage into a single interface. This tutorial will cover the different coexistence options in your Skype to Teams migration and how to seamlessly transition to the platform that makes the most sense for your business.

It is recommended that Skype for Business Online customers start with “Islands” mode so users can experience the full functionality of Teams at their speed. Then, once organization adoption of Microsoft Teams hits 100% saturation, businesses should upgrade to “Teams-Only” mode.

To assist in your decision of when to upgrade your business to Microsoft Teams, you can use Microsoft 365 Usage Analytics, to see User Activity reports and view top departments by usage, top users, and workload.
