This week, Brad meets up with the Director of Engineering from Lloyds Banking Group, Simon Bullers. Lloyds is one of the "Big 4" banks in the UK with £800 billion in assets, and the efficiency of the banks' operations is of paramount economic importance.

Simon has spent his time at Lloyds focused on modernizing and improving the user experience of the Lloyds workforce, and a key part of this effort is the Microsoft Managed Desktop (MMD). Simon explains how MMD offers evergreen security and productivity setup that impacts the way people work in measurable ways. One example is reducing boot times from 10 minutes to 30 seconds, but there are also considerable benefits like always having your systems patched and updated with the latest security and compliance requirements, or having the productivity tools be so easy to use that workers can go the extra mile to serve a customer with zero workstream friction.

Brad and Simon also examine coats of arms from around the world, and Brad uses Simon's banking expertise to help appraise some unopened safety deposit boxes he bought at auction Other discussion topics: Logo design, CIOs in the 17th century, hamburger consumption, financing the purchase of an obsolete Russian tank, penguin ranches, Sharknadoes, and living with a purpose.
