The NFL faces more than a quadrillion schedule options each season—yes, a quadrillion—so the league relies on AWS to power the its schedule-making process.
With 32 teams playing 272 games across 576 possible game windows, and 17 regular-season games for each team across 18 weeks, there are nearly one billion schedule options for each team, creating an almost limitless number of possible schedule combinations that could occur. By using thousands of Amazon EC2 instances, the NFL is saving thousands of human hours and an estimated $2 million.
