SSDs offer much greater performance and durability than HDDs, but they aren’t invincible. How can you keep track of your SSD’s health to ensure you optimize your SSD lifespan?

Strengths and Weaknesses of SSDs
The NAND cells in your SSD can only be programmed and erased a finite number of times. This number can be affected by several factors. Extremes of temperature are one such factor. Power outages are another: loss of power during a write cycle can be calamitous. Power surges can also be extremely damaging. Surge protectors and uninterruptible power supplies can protect against these power issues, though.

Monitoring Your SSD’s Status
Maintaining and monitoring an SSD is a relatively simple affair. There are tools like wear leveling to prevent cells from burning out too quickly. There is also SMART (Self-Monitoring, Analysis, and Reporting Technology), a tool built into most modern HDDs and SSDs. Kingston SSDs come with the Kingston SSD Management app (kingston.com/en/support/techni... which provides all sorts of quality-of-life utilities for your drive integrity and data security concerns. Lastly, we recommend promptly updating your firmware, BIOS, and any essential drivers, to preserve best functionality for your drives.
