On a visit to a museum at age seven, Dr. Katya Echazarreta immediately knew she wanted to go to space. Years later, as the first Mexican-born woman to make it to the stratosphere, she is inspiring the next generation of women in STEM on a tour of Chicago’s Adler Planetarium.

Dr. Echazarreta knows firsthand how critical it is to not only motivate girls to pursue science and mathematics, but how important it is for educators to provide more equitable educational opportunities for women in STEM. She’s excited about how the Million Girls Moonshot, supported by the Intel Foundation, is reaching nearly 800,000 girls and 100,000 STEM educators with fun and challenging programs—all with a goal to engage a million girls in STEM by 2025. Short film produced in conjunction with CNN.
