Microsoft VP Deepak Bansal introduces the SDN Appliance for Azure, a new technology that Microsoft has built in partnership with AMD, using AMD Pensando DPUs to accelerate network services. SDN (software-defined networking) is a technology that revolutionizes how networking is done in data centers, allowing customers to create new networks at the click of a button. SDN Appliance leverages AMD DPUs to offer higher performance and lower cost, providing up to 18 million connections per second and 300 million packets per second. In addition, DPUs are programmable, giving Microsoft the flexibility to introduce new features in their data centers at a faster pace. Through a demo, Deepak showcases how SDN Appliance can achieve much higher throughput and connections per second performance, making it an ideal solution for network virtual appliances such as firewalls.
