Welcome to your Fire tablet. In this video, we take an in-depth look at the VoiceView options available on your Fire tablet.
VoiceView is a screen reader that speaks on-screen text out loud on Amazon devices. It’s designed for people who are blind or who have low vision when browsing movies and TV shows, navigating menu options, and customizing settings.
You can quickly activate VoiceView with a shortcut. Just...
* Hold the power button until you hear an alert, then release the power button and hold two fingers slightly apart on the screen. Keep two fingers on the screen until you hear [SFX VoiceView Ready].
You can also turn on VoiceView by going to Settings, navigating down to Accessibility, then scrolling down and selecting VoiceView screen reader.
A tutorial is offered when VoiceView is launched for the first time and you can refer to the tutorial at any time in VoiceView settings.
As you browse through the Home screen layout, VoiceView describes where you are on screen and reads on-screen text.
There are several VoiceView options that can enhance and customize your experience. To explore these custom options, go to:
* Settings on the Home screen.
* Navigate to Accessibility and
* Select VoiceView Screen Reader.
For example, you can create an Accessibility shortcut for VoiceView. Just go to Accessibility, then Accessibility Shortcut. Choose "Toggle VoiceView" to activate and deactivate VoiceView by just triple-pressing the Power button.
When VoiceView is turned on, you can adjust VoiceView settings like...
* Reading Speed
* Verbosity
* Speech Volume
* Sounds Volume
* Key Echo
* and Punctuation Level.
If you are unfamiliar with the basic gestures of VoiceView, or would like another review, you can activate "Learn Mode" by double-tapping with four fingers to start a gesture practice.
Some basic gestures include...
* Activate an item: Place focus on it then double-tap anywhere on the screen.
* Explore screen: Drag one finger on the screen.
* Go to the next heading: Swipe up or down on the screen.
* Go to the next item: Swipe right with one finger.
* Go to the previous item: Swipe left with one finger.
* Read all from selected item: Swipe down with two fingers.
If you're unsure on what action to take next, you can tap once with three fingers and VoiceView will provide a usage hint, or information on what actions you can take depending on where you are on the screen.
Within the Verbosity setting, in VoiceView, you can adjust the amount of information provided while navigating. For example: You can activate Speak Screen Description so the screen layout is spoken out loud every time.
Typing style allows you to change the way you interact with the on-screen keyboard when using VoiceView. You can choose between Standard mode, where you double tap when you hear the letter or character you want, and Touch mode, where you hold on the letter or character, then lift your finger to type it. You will be asked for your preference when you use a keyboard for the first time while VoiceView is activated.
The VoiceView screen reader also allows you to connect your tablet with a Bluetooth Braille Display.
You can de-activate VoiceView by swiping down from the top of the screen with three fingers to open Quick Settings. Focus on Settings, then Accessibility. Navigate to Voice View screen reader and Toggle-off.
Then tap continue to confirm you want to de-activate VoiceView. You will hear “VoiceView exiting”.
