Generation17 Young Leader Brigitta Gunawan is racing to save Indonesia's coral reefs before it's too late. Scientists warn that up to 90 % of coral reefs could be gone by 2050, so Brigitta is fighting back. The young marine conservationist leads two organizations—30x30 Indonesia and Diverseas—taking a dual approach to ocean conservation. Through 30x30 Indonesia, she's restoring coral reefs one fragment at a time, planting over 1,000 corals at underwater gardens in Bali. Through Diverseas, she's bringing the ocean to people who've never seen it, using VR headsets and 360-degree underwater films to inspire the next generation of ocean advocates. Her efforts have reached more than 17,000 people across 12 countries.

Generation17 is an initiative in partnership with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) that aims to harness technology to elevate the voices of young leaders around the globe who are working to achieve the Global Goals. Established by the United Nations in 2015, the Global Goals—or Sustainable Development Goals—provide a framework to address pressing global challenges including poverty, inequality, climate change and peace and justice, to build a better future for all by 2030.
