An open, standards-based software-defined storage controller is needed to realize the full potential of SDS. A SDS controller would have visibility into and control of all storage resources in the data center. It would communicate with the applications and orchestration layer, and allocate resources from diverse storage systems to the applications to meet their SLOs.
