Human beings are information carnivores: we are constantly collecting, labeling, and organizing data-yet our previous systems cannot keep up with the levels of information we now receive. The Dewey Decimal system is stretched beyond the breaking point, Rand McNally is obsolete, and the shift to online digital music stands as the model for the future in virtually any industry. In order to embrace the new miscellaneous world, we need to understand some basic tenets: -There is no such thing as too much information -What authorities say means less than what our friends tell us -Messiness is a virtue -Connections are more important than distinctions How do we reap rewards from this new digital disorder and learn to manage the information overload?
