Internship projects from MSR Community Technologies Group Social studies of online discussion groups

Please join us for a review of projects in-progress from Itai Himelboim and Alan Schussman, interns this Winter in the Community Technologies Group.  Itai will present his work hunting for the behavioral signature of a key type of social role performed in discussion groups, the “reply magnet”, the person who may say little but causes much response.  Alan will present his work on the life-cycles of newsgroups by exploring the ways that crossposting connections between newsgroups (created when messages are shared between two or more conversation repositories) are related to their cycles of growth and decline.
