Read Description Before Watching - What Is Handheld Molecular Scanning?

When this video was originally created, there were companies claiming that they were working on molecular scanners (which are real) that could be held in your hand.

Now that the products are actually shipping, it has come to light that their claims were misleading, so we've left this video here in case anyone wants to watch it, but we want to make it clear that we don't endorse any of the products shown in the video, and they were used without collaboration or even permission from the manufacturers.

While it may be possible to miniaturize this type of technology in the future, its accuracy is very limited and the current implementations are sub-par at best. As it stands, it doesn't appear as though any serious efforts to do so are being made to make FUNCTIONAL molecular scanning viable at a consumer price point today.

So as we said in the video, but obviously didn't emphasize enough, handheld scanners are not a replacement for more expensive scientific instruments.. but we ARE still interested to see what could be done with the concept in the future.
