Self-driving cars have the potential to make our commutes more productive, reduce traffic congestion, and deliver safe on-demand rides. What does it take for humans and robots to share the roads? What level of information builds user trust in the experience? What communication mechanisms do we need between vehicles, riders, and pedestrians?

Ryan Powell of Waymo, Wendy Ju of Cornell Tech, and Melissa Cefkin of Nissan Research Center discuss how designers and researchers are tackling these questions and what they are learning in the space of human and autonomous vehicle interactions.
