AWS billing data contains no breakout for container cost, yet operations teams need to keep track of container resource usage and utilization for proper cost allocation. Organizations take different approaches to allocate resource costs to containers, varying in terms of algorithms and level of precision. With nodes hosting multiple pods, pods sharing EBS volumes and services spanning different types of hosts, and reasoning about chargeback, showback and cost allocation very quickly become difficult.
