Automating Tax using Google Cloud Platform, (it really can be done!) (Cloud Next '19)

VAT/GST exists in over 150 countries across APAC, LATAM and EMEA, each with different VAT/GST recovery rules and documentation requirements for accounts payable and T&E expenses. It’s a complex operating environment which relies on accurately capturing and categorizing VAT/GST information contained in third party invoices and correctly posting this into the system. For T&E expenses alone, SAP Concur estimates that around $23 billion in VAT/GST goes unclaimed each year globally. PwC experience is that this is due in large part to system and process gaps.

PwC has worked together with Google to develop a solution on Google Cloud Platform which utilizes Google’s Vision API and Auto ML capabilities and PwC’s tax content to fully automate the VAT/GST expense categorization and determination process for accounts payable and T&E expenses, directly from the source invoice image. This session will explore the business problem and demonstrate how the technology solution has transformed this previously manual and complex tax process.
