Nokia, Honeywell, and Colt Technology Services have initiated a joint trial to demonstrate quantum-safe cryptography via space-based quantum key distribution (QKD).
This collaboration will use Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite links to trial long-distance quantum key exchange. This will allow for the extension of QKD beyond 100km terrestrial fiber constraints, this effort aims to validate secure, scalable architectures for intercontinental quantum-secure networks.
Key components include:
• Honeywell’s advanced space systems to facilitate secure satellite-based key distribution
• Colt’s high-performance digital infrastructure for ground segment integration
• Nokia’s optical transport and QKD orchestration capabilities for end-to-end secure key management
This trial demonstrates a critical step toward operationalizing quantum-resilient infrastructure, essential for securing government, enterprise, and critical communications in the quantum era.
