0:02:04 You seem to appreciate precise language. In the course of your making, researching or collecting, is there an object or concept that you wish had a standardized term? Either something seemingly lacking a term altogether, or something where an existing term is ambiguous because it’s shared with more general meanings or otherwise easily confused?
0:08:31 How do you know when it’s time to freelance full time? I’m a video producer and shooter. I’ve been working for large companies for most of my 13 year career. Ive done freelance before
0:11:54 You've said several times you consider yourself a machine operator, not a machinist. I'm neither so to my basic understanding the fact you use drill presses, lathes, etc means you are a machinist even if not to the level of some others. Could you expound on your philosophy and why you consider yourself one over the other?
0:11:54 (answered at same time) What do you see as the difference between “amateur" and "professional"? I've known pros that were not very professional (in quality of work as well as attitude) and amateurs who put the best pros to shame. Is it purely the fact of making money from something or is there some level of quality attached?
0:18:24 On the show MythBusters, you and Jamie and everybody else use tools in ways for which they were never intended… Do you still find yourself in those situations sometimes?
0:21:59 How do I pare down my…plate spinning? I’m into too much stuff, and want to be good at all of those things. But burnout is real and I have no chalk line to keep from going beyond.
0:28:35 Years ago, I built a small vacuformer (12" x 12" x 8" pull area) out of a space heater, assorted 1-by pine, a piece of pegboard and my 6 gallon shop vac. My vac pulls are passable but I have trouble with tighter recesses like inside corners. Any suggestions on improving performance or redesign?
0:32:23 I’m curious if you’ve ever received a helpful critique from someone you did not like, and how you handled it. I recently received a critique from someone whose work I respect, but who I am diametrically opposed to, personally, politically and morally. While the critique was unsolicited, it turned out to be valid. I am trying to exercise some humility and integrate it but finding it difficult to not resort to “ad hominem” thinking.
0:38:00 You’ve worked with cutting-edge materials and tools, but also with found objects and scrap. In your experience, what have you learned about the relationship between constraints – like limited tools or reclaimed materials – and true creativity?
0:45:12 You often recite lines from poems during your work. I'm a new convert to poetry and am trying to find some spots to begin exploring. What are some of the best collections of poetry in your opinion?
0:48:55 Any thoughts on Steven Colbert and the cancellation of the Late Show?
0:51:10 Have you ever built or designed a mobile workshop? I am presently building a rig for full time traveling and including functions for making/building. If you were to make an "Adam Savage touring vehicle" for attending conventions and various trips, what would the tentpoles be, and what form factor would be most appealing to you? (Ie: a truck with a trailer, a van by itself, etc)
0:56:46 Did Mythbusters science data ever get saved? Or have any real-world use? Is all the data from your experiments lost or on a disc somewhere?
