My thoughts on the Asus Transformer Book T300LA
-Elegent metal design trumps industry plastic design of the Yoga series, and it feels classier than the Surface 2 Pro and Sony Tap 11.
-Transformer book has a wireless keyboard, allowing it to completely separate from the base, while the Yoga 13 has only a swivel screen allowing it to fully rotate upside down and go into tablet mode. While this tablet mode is useful, it has its drawbacks. I had issues with the keyboard not responding once I returned to laptop mode, requiring me to fully close the lid and open it again to get the keyboard to wake up.
-The actual touch interface is fantastic 95% of the time. It is responsive to clicking on links, browsing webpages is fantastic with touch, and all of the Windows 8 touch enabled apps work great. The main issue I ran into was when it didn't want to register a touch
-Transformer book keyboard/mouse dock quickly goes to sleep mode to prevent battery drain, sometimes requiring you to click or tap on things twice before it would respond. This is especially prevalent with the mouse, sometimes requiring you to wait about a ½ second before it would respond.
-The wireless keyboard dock also must be charged separately from the tablet itself, which is a minor hassle.
-When I first received the Transformer book, it had adaptive brightness enabled, which I would normally be fine with, but the even when I maxed the brightness, the laptop did not seem very bright.
-Laptop sometimes will tilt backwards if you are sitting with it on your lap at a downwards angle.
-Battery life while performing basic office functions would range from 5.5-7 hours on the transformer book depending on whether or not you have wifi on, brightness level, playing music, etc. While streaming online content, the transformer book lasted about 4 hours. While playing video games, it lasted approx. 2 hours.
-I did install three games on it. Dota 2 (20 FPS at 1080p), Batman: Arkham City (25 FPS at 720p), Tomb raider with everything on low except textures (23 FPS). All three games were playable.
-Things I missed on it: Doesn't have backlit keyboard. Wished it had a fullsize SD card slot.
Conclusion: For the price, it is an excellent alterative to the Microsoft Surface 2 Pro, Sony Tap 11, and Yoga 2 Pro. It does have its gimmicks, mostly with wireless keyboard, but it is the most elegant solution to the 2 in 1 hybrid laptop to date. If you like the idea of a fully functional laptop, but also want something that can go into tablet mode, then I think you should take a serious look at the Asus Transformer Book T300LA.
