This talk will cover multiple human genetic topics, from discovery to implementation science. The National Human Genome Research Institute (NHGRI) has led multiple efforts in support of personalized medicine. UW has and will continue to play a major role with one such NHGRI effort called the Electronic Medical Records and Genomics (eMERGE) Network. This study combines DNA biorepositories with EHRs in support of implementing genomic medicine. These efforts will advance the national electronic health information infrastructure in support of personalized medicine. Dr. Crosslin will describe how the eMERGE Network is on the forefront of precision medicine. He will outline how the Network started with genetic discovery using mined phenotypes from the EHR, and how the research focus has transitioned to genetic variation interpretation and integration into the EHR for CDS. Drs. Larson and Crane will cover past, present, and future plans for genetic investigation in the ACT study, with a focus on identifying druggable targets that may change the shape of the Alzheimer’s disease epidemic in the US and worldwide.
