One thing OEMs complained about with early versions of Android was the complexity in customizing Android. In Google's defense, what OEMs were trying to do went way beyond simple theming or skinning. They started re-writing large portions of the Android UI.

This has led to delays and problems pushing updates to the Android OS for the most "customized" devices. Google recognized this and promised to make customizations easier with upcoming versions of Android. With Android 2.3 Gingerbread, most of these customizable features have been realized.

T-Mobile was one of the first on the band wagon using the new themeable features and developed an app for their phones. Shortly thereafter they released their app into the opensource. The CyanogenMod team picked it up and added it to CM7!

Now, theme developers can write themes, publish the .apk or distribute the app through the Android Market. Let's look at three beautiful themes.
