How we Live Migrated Millions of BBM Users & its Infrastructure Across the Pacific (Cloud Next '18)

Emtek, Indonesia's leading media company, partnered with BlackBerry to license the rights to develop and offer BBM for Android and iOS. As part of this, the BBM infrastructure was moved from data centers in Canada to the Google Cloud Platform. All of this was happening while the services and applications continued to improved and millions of users continue to be served. We will share the many learnings in the area of reengineering components to be cloud native, dealing with legacy components, and strategies for live migration.
