FINRA, the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, uses AWS to help it monitor and regulate more than 630,000 brokers and 100 percent of the equities and options traded in U.S. stock markets. FINRA serves as the largest independent regulator of securities firms doing business in the United States, authorized by Congress to protect America’s investors and ensure the broker-dealer industry operates fairly and honestly. FINRA leverages AWS services to monitor markets for manipulation and fraud, including Amazon S3 for industry data ingestion; AWS Lambda and Amazon EC2 for data validation; Amazon EMR for storage functionality; and Amazon ElasticSearch, Amazon SageMaker, and Amazon Redshift for big data analytics. The company’s data solution monitors more than 155 billion market events per day, which are reconstructed into a database with trillions of nodes that runs hundreds of surveillance patterns on up to seven terabytes of new data daily.
