0:02:28 I just finished watching the Craig Ferguson podcast. What a lovely conversation! Any chance of getting him into the cave for some making?
0:04:49 What is one gift you think everybody should receive for the holidays?
0:05:36 Do you have any memorable holiday related maker stories?
0:09:27 When making something, do you start with the "hard" part or the "easy" part? I paint figurines and sometimes wonder if I should do the piece that will be hard first to get it done or do the easy part to gain confidence.
0:13:40 I've been making props and costumes for more than10 years. I got started through cosplay, then went to college for theatre tech, and now that I've actually delved into the industry, I'm realizing my work pales in comparison to that of the seasoned professionals. I feel like I was oblivious to this for a long time because my work has always been over-the-top enough to garner compliments, and my portfolio has gotten me jobs, but when I'm actually working in a professional setting, I make so many stupid sloppy mistakes. For too long, I've been throwing stuff at the wall and seeing what sticks rather than being methodical and precise. I'm trying my best to break the habit, but my impatience continually gets the better of me. How do I convince my brain to slow down and focus on improving my technical skill and attention to detail? (For context: I have ADHD)
0:24:40 Do you have a "Groundhog Day" that you wouldn't mind living the same day over and over again? Based on your reaction, I think driving a wedged snow-plow through traffic would take time to get boring.
0:28:17 About the Silo videos: How do you go about getting access? Do you guys ask? Or does the production team of the series or movie contact you?
0:32:52 Do you not like listening to music while you build or is it just a matter of you can't play music because it's a money matter for the channel?
0:37:36 Do you have any stories of a time when you had a brilliant idea for a project or a solution to a problem — like an absolute banger of an idea — then the next day all you remember is that it was a great idea but you can't remember what the actual thing was for the life of you?
0:47:11 I've been cosplaying for a few years now and I recently found myself dragging my feet on starting my next sewing project, not because I dislike the work, but rather because I have yet to find a way for my current workspace to accommodate that style of project in a way pleasing to my own process. Any advice for finding ways to improve one's workspace to better accommodate a particular style of making?
0:51:08 I know you enjoy cooking at home with Mrs Donttrythis, but do you have any other non-maker hobbies that maybe aren’t as well known, like collecting old Sears catalogs? (I don’t know anyone that does that, ahem, just a random example.)
0:59:33 What are the biggest differences between building physical models and using CAD? What are the pros and cons of each, and how do you combine them in your projects?
