One of the dominant design principles that Android adheres to is that it’s a multitasking operating system: users can have multiple apps running, and can quickly swap between them, as needed.

This means that YOUR application isn’t alone, and it certainly doesn’t own all the available resources on the device. So if you want to play nice with the rest of the system, and NOT be the one kicked out of the sandbox for stealing toys, take the advice of Colt McAnlis and leverage some handy APIs to share memory with your other playmates.
