Changes in polar snow and ice are rapidly altering the timing and magnitude of freshwater delivery to the ocean, with impacts on near-shore ecosystems, transportation and energy infrastructure, and global sea level. The complexity of these systems requires a cloud-based computational infrastructure to facilitate integrative research and coordinated delivery of results to multiple stakeholders. In this talk I will describe our efforts to develop hydrological models for the Gulf of Alaska region using Azure Virtual Machines, as well as an API that serves model output and field observations via an Azure website.
