How Computers See the Earth: A ML Approach to Understanding Satellite Imagery (Cloud Next '18)

Our planet is teeming with activity; agriculture, energy, logistics, and much more. The explosion of satellite imagery provides a unique means to understand these processes. Descartes Labs has built a platform for global geospatial data analysis using Google Cloud Services. This talk will cover:

-Efficient algorithm development cycles in the cloud
-Training and deploying ML algorithms on massive global datasets with cloud compute
-Visual search over the earth's surface, enabled by deep learning-based computer vision (search.descarteslabs.com)
-How models can quickly be built on top of geospatial data that covers a large region or time window
