SPI Cinemas: AWS & ‘Cinema in the Cloud’ Delivers Peak Customer Experience

SPI Cinemas is an Indian multiplex chain and film production company headquartered in Chennai, Tamil Nadu. Passionate about customer experience, from the moment of ticket purchase through to the exacting standards of its popcorn, SPI Cinemas is highly digitally engaged with its customers. The movie business, however, is subject to huge spikes in demand on ‘blockbuster’ release days, so the company wanted to ensure it had the capacity required only when needed. Since moving its entire infrastructure to the AWS platform, SPI Cinemas completes all digital transactions in the cloud. During flash sales when demand peaks, it cost effectively and temporarily provisions capacity to support several times normal performance in under an hour. This enables tens of thousands of customers to shop online, supporting nearly 4500 transactions per minute.
